چکیده

ABSTRACT Background: Pyogenic Spinal Epidural Abscess (PSEA) is difficult to diagnose and can have devastating consequences. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has high sensitivity specificity, which are further increased with the use of contrast. There several classifications vertebral infectious processes, emphasis on spondylodiscitis. Objective: To analyze morphological parameters their reproducibility; different resonance imaging sequences. Methods: Using an image database, a classification PSEA was planned, five parameters: Region (R), indicating upper lower limits abscess; Location (U), whether abscess anterior or posterior within canal; Compromise (C), meningeal content structures; Association (A), discitis, osteomyelitis both; Perivertebral (P), anterior, lateral extravertebral abscess. The first three give idea volume PSEA, while last two related foci. Thirty-five cases were analyzed using Kappa’s coefficient. Results: global intra- interobserver reproducibility Kappa 0.81. results for each parameter as follows: R=0.95, U=0.92, C=0.66, A=0.70 P=0.80. notion relate presence foci outside canal. T2 weighted MRI contrast found be most effective sequence. Conclusion: simple use, excellent reproducibility. highest region location, values >0.92. addition gadolinium diagnosis; sagittal axial images in T2-MRI sensitive Evidence Level III; Original.

Spontaneous Pyogenic Spinal Epidural Abscess Spontan Spinal Epidural Abse

AIM: Spontaneous pyogenic spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is a rare condition but might be devastating and fatal. Traditional treatment is surgical decompression and antibiotics. A retrospective study was designed to assess the eff ect of clinical findings and treatment methods on the outcome. MATERIAL and METHODS: 14 patients were reviewed (10 male, 4 female, mean age 59.14). Six dorsal, seven v...

Epidural abscesses.

Until recently epidural abscess was considered a rare, almost theoretical, complication of central nerve block, but anecdotal reports suggest that this is no longer the case. Thus a review of the risk factors, pathogenesis, clinical features and outcome of this condition is appropriate, the primary aim being to make recommendations on best anaesthetic practice to minimize the risk of this serio...

Recent Developments in the Treatment of Spinal Epidural Abscesses

Spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is a serious condition that can be challenging to diagnose due to nonspecific symptomology and delayed presentation. Despite this, it requires prompt recognition and management in order to prevent permanent neurologic sequelae. Several recent studies have improved our understanding of SEA. Herein, we summarize the recent literature from the past 10 years relevant t...

Percutaneous Management of Pyogenic Liver Abscesses

Twenty-four pyogenic liver abscesses have been treated during a six-year period percutaneously. Percutaneous management included percutaneous drainage and fine needle aspiration under ultrasound or CT scan guidance. Percutaneous management was successful in 92% of cases, and no further treatment was required in 91% of these. One patient died, giving a mortality rate of 4.1%. There were no compl...
